Overview and Gameplay
Douglas Quaid is hunted through Earth and Mars after a Rekall procedure exposes a false identity and a larger conspiracy. Total Recall for NES turns the film license into a side-scrolling action platformer with one top-down vehicle sequence in the Martian Transit Hub.
Play moves through set-piece stages inspired by the movie, including Quaid’s neighborhood, the X-ray scanner, subway security, Mars, mines, and the confrontation with Cohaagen. The loop is direct: survive enemy attacks, avoid hazards, find the route forward, collect weapons and energy, and reach each stage goal.
Controls And Mechanics
- Quaid can move, crouch, enter doors, jump, punch, and fire collected weapons.
- Weapons include a hand gun, machine gun, laser, and vehicle mines during the Transit Hub driving stage.
- The game starts with limited lives and energy blocks, with Energy Canisters and extra lives placed through stages.
- Weapon selection is handled from pause, letting the player cycle through available weapons.
- This NES version is a solo game with no two-player mode.
