Overview and Gameplay

Joe’s brother has been shot down near the enemy fortress, and the player takes command of an attack helicopter to fight back across land, sea, and air. Twin Eagle is the North American NES version of the arcade shooter Twin Eagle: Revenge Joe’s Brother, converted for home play with fast vertical scrolling and simultaneous cooperative action.

The campaign runs through five stages. Players destroy aircraft, helicopters, tanks, turrets, and soldiers while pushing toward the fortress, with stage-end results tracking progress, enemies, and hostages.

Controls And Mechanics

  • Move the helicopter around the screen, fire forward, and drop bombs against ground and air targets.
  • Special enemies can reveal a Weapon Select System. Shooting it changes the reward before pickup.
  • Power-ups include missiles, speed-ups, two-way shots, cannon balls, power boosts, machine guns, and bombs.
  • Bombs act as powerful screen-clearing attacks.
  • The game supports simultaneous two-player co-op, and the second player can join during play.
  • Players begin with three helicopters and have a limited number of continues.

Version Notes

This is the licensed U.S. NES release. The box title is Twin Eagle, while databases often list the longer arcade subtitle Twin Eagle: Revenge Joe’s Brother.
