Overview and Gameplay

Waldo is trying to reach the Moon, and the player has to spot him across simplified NES versions of the crowded picture-book scenes. The game turns the famous hidden-object books into a timed cursor-based puzzle search with a few small challenge stages between scenes.

The player searches locations such as a train station, castle, fairground, forest, city, cave, subway, and moon-machine sequence. Wrong guesses cost time, while difficulty changes the timer, scope size, scene size, and how tricky Waldo is to identify.

Controls And Mechanics

  • The player moves a scope, flashlight, arrow, or pointer depending on the stage.
  • In search scenes, the goal is to place the cursor on Waldo and confirm the guess.
  • The cave sequence uses a flashlight-style search and guidance challenge.
  • The subway sequence is a track maze involving Waldo’s glasses and White Beard.
  • The Moon Match-Up sequence uses spinning picture reels that must match Waldo.
  • The game is single-player only.

This is the USA NES release using the North American Where’s Waldo? name. It is separate from the later NES game The Great Waldo Search.
