Overview and Gameplay
Government agent Rolf and his companion Nei investigate a surge of biomonsters on Mota, a planet whose comfortable society depends on the Mother Brain computer network. Phantasy Star II is a major early Sega Genesis RPG, combining a dark science-fiction story with overworld travel, towns, random battles, and large multi-floor dungeons.
Up to four characters fight in the active party. Battles are turn-based, with commands for weapons, techniques, defense, and escape. Victories provide experience and meseta for stronger statistics, new abilities, and equipment. Eight characters can join, each with distinct combat roles and equipment restrictions.
Controls And Mechanics
- Directions: Move through the world and navigate menus.
- A: Talk, inspect objects, and advance dialogue.
- B: Cancel selections or return to the previous menu.
- C: Open menus, confirm commands, and select actions.
- Start: Begin or pause the game.
- Saving is handled at Data Memory facilities, while Clone Labs restore defeated party members.
Version Notes
This is the Rev A revision of the shared English USA and Europe release. The Western title omits the Japanese subtitle, Kaerazaru Toki no Owari ni, and the localization abbreviates several names.
