Overview and Gameplay
Phantasy Star Collection presents three science-fantasy RPG campaigns set across the Algol planetary system. Phantasy Star follows Alis as she gathers allies to overthrow King Lassic. Phantasy Star II sends Rolf to investigate Motavia’s spreading biomonster crisis. Phantasy Star III: Generations of Doom follows a conflict across three generations, with marriage choices determining later protagonists and story routes.
Each campaign uses its own characters and save data. Exploration covers towns, overworlds, caves, towers, and multi-floor dungeons. Random battles award experience and Meseta for gaining levels, purchasing equipment, and improving each party.
Controls And Mechanics
The directional pad moves the party and navigates menus. A confirms commands and performs context-sensitive interactions, while B cancels selections or opens field menus. Start opens the collection prompt for continuing play or returning to the game-selection screen.
Turn-based battles use physical attacks, magic or techniques, defensive commands, items, and escape attempts. Characters manage health, ability resources, equipment, and individual inventories. Party defeat ends the current attempt and requires returning to saved progress.
Version Notes
This Game Boy Advance compilation packages the first three main Phantasy Star games on one cartridge. Screen layouts and menu presentation were adapted for the handheld display while retaining the original English-era game designs.
