Overview and Gameplay
Powerball turns a 100-yard field into a futuristic collision sport combining football, rugby, soccer, wrestling, and martial arts. Teams pass, kick, tackle, and carry the ball while trying to score one point against the goal board or three points by reaching the end zone.
Matches run for four quarters. The solo league adds password continuation and team development, letting earned bonus points improve player speed, kick, power, stamina, and acceleration. Exhibition mode supports immediate matches, including simultaneous two-player competition.
Controls And Mechanics
- Directions: Move players and aim passes or attacks.
- A: Kick while carrying the ball or tackle while defending. Holding it charges stronger kicks and tackles.
- B: Pass in possession or switch to the defender nearest the ball.
- C: Perform a counterattack with the ball or a steerable Flying Bomb tackle on defense.
- Start: Pause or resume play.
Version Notes
The Japanese release is titled Wrestleball. The USA version changes teams and presentation, replaces the Namco Stars with a British team, removes the selectable Training and Battle Royal modes, and resolves tied standard matches through sudden death.
