Overview and Gameplay
Tsubasa and other major players move through club and international matches in Captain Tsubasa III: Koutei no Chousen, a command-based soccer RPG for Super Famicom. This version is an English fan translation of the Japan-only release.
The game does not play like a standard real-time soccer match. Players move footballers around the field, then choose commands when possession, defense, air balls, or goalkeeper situations occur. Story progression is built around matches, team changes, tactical choices, and dramatic special techniques.
Controls And Mechanics
- The directional pad moves the selected player and selects menu commands.
- Commands change depending on whether the player is attacking, defending, contesting an air ball, or controlling the goalkeeper.
- Options include passing, shooting, dribbling, one-two plays, tackles, blocks, pass cuts, traps, clearances, catches, and punches.
- Special moves use Guts, a stamina-like resource that must be managed during the match.
- Halftime allows formation, defense, line-up, and player-status adjustments.
- The game is treated as single-player for this version, with no verified co-op mode.
Version Notes
This is an English fan translation of キャプテン翼III 皇帝の挑戦, originally released only in Japan for Super Famicom. A common English rendering is Captain Tsubasa III: The Emperor’s Challenge.
