Overview and Gameplay
The Bydo Empire returns, sending the R-90 fighter into six side-scrolling missions built around precision shooting, enemy memorization, and large boss encounters. R-Type III: The Third Lightning keeps the series’ Force-unit system while adding three selectable Force types: Round Force, Shadow Force, and Cyclone Force.
Controls And Mechanics
- Force control: The Force can attach to the front or rear of the ship, separate to attack independently, and change weapons through Laser Units.
- Beam weapons: The charge system supports powerful shots, including Super Power and Hyper Drive beam modes.
- Power-ups: Speed Units, Laser Units, Pursuit Units, and Pit Units modify movement, weapons, and support fire.
- Two-player support: The SNES version includes a two-player mode for shared play.
