Overview and Gameplay
R-Type III: The Third Lightning sends the experimental R-90 fighter against a renewed Bydo invasion. Six horizontally scrolling stages contain enemy formations, narrow passages, moving machinery, environmental hazards, and large bosses. A five-character password appears after each cleared stage and resumes play from the next area.
Before the campaign, the pilot selects the Round Force, Shadow Force, or Cyclone Force. Each unit supplies different laser patterns and detached attacks.
Controls And Mechanics
The directional pad moves the fighter, B fires the standard weapon, and holding A charges the Weapon Meter. Releasing A launches a Super Power Beam or activates Hyper mode, depending on the mode selected with R. L launches, attaches, or recalls the Force unit, while Start pauses play.
The Force can mount on the front or rear of the ship, block many projectiles, and attack independently when detached. Colored upgrades activate different Force lasers. Additional items increase movement speed, add homing missiles, or deploy protective Bits. Contact with enemy fire, hostile craft, or scenery destroys the fighter.
Version Notes
This Game Boy Advance reconstruction uses a smaller playfield, five-character stage passwords, reduced enemy formations, and newly produced music and sound effects.
