Overview and Gameplay

A boy from Podunk and his dog are pulled into Evermore, a strange artificial world built from prehistoric, ancient, medieval, and futuristic settings. Secret of Evermore is a top-down action RPG with real-time combat, towns, dungeons, bosses, weapon growth, and a distinctive alchemy system instead of traditional magic.

The player switches between the boy and the dog while the other partner is controlled by the game. The dog fights, changes form across regions, and can sniff out hidden items and ingredients.

Controls And Mechanics

  • The directions move the active character and navigate Ring Command menus.
  • B is used for attacking, talking, confirming choices, and interacting.
  • Y opens the active character’s Ring Commands and can pause or resume play.
  • X opens the partner’s Ring Commands, while Select switches control between the boy and dog.
  • A enables running after the Jaguar Ring is obtained, and L or R makes the dog sniff for hidden finds.
  • Weapons and alchemy formulas improve through use; formulas require ingredients and only a limited set can be memorized at once.
