Overview and Gameplay
Fox McCloud leads the Starwing team into the Lylat system to stop Andross in this Super FX-powered polygon rail shooter. Known as Star Fox in Japan and North America, Starwing was a major SNES technical showcase, with behind-the-ship Arwing combat, three course routes, wingman calls, score tallies, and boss battles on the way to Venom.
Controls And Mechanics
- Flight: the Arwing advances automatically while the player steers, fires lasers, brakes with retro rockets, and uses speed boosts.
- Weapons: Nova Bombs, Twin Blaster upgrades, and shield-restoring pickups support each mission.
- Defense: rolls and barrel rolls help avoid danger and can reflect some enemy fire.
- Progress: score milestones award extra credits, but there is no normal save or password system.
- Mode: single-player only, with no alternating, versus, simultaneous, or co-op multiplayer.
