Overview and Gameplay
Pocahontas follows the heroine through five side-scrolling stages set across forests, villages, caves, waterways, and later story locations. Each stage requires her to avoid animals and environmental hazards, collect a necklace to open the route forward, and reach the exit. Meeko appears as a helper during the first stage, while story scenes feature Powhatan, Kocoum, John Smith, and the conflict surrounding the settlers.
Controls And Mechanics
The directional pad moves Pocahontas, climbs branches, and controls swimming. B jumps, while A interacts with Meeko and nearby objects. After gaining the deer spirit, holding A while moving allows her to run. Pocahontas loses a life after four hits, and apples restore health.
Version Notes
This unlicensed Famicom/NES adaptation simplifies the Genesis game into a five-stage platform adventure. Meeko acts as a scripted helper, the deer spirit provides the main movement upgrade, and the title screen spells the name as Pocohontos.
