Overview and Gameplay
Prince Farron returns to reclaim the Crystal Palace from Zaras, fighting through five stages with his guardian dog, Zap. This side-scrolling action-platformer combines sword combat, precise jumping, enemy-dropped coins, shops, temporary upgrades and boss battles.
An opening choice between Life, Flight and Spirit crystals grants extra health, improved jumping or a fireball attack. Kim sells healing items, extra lives, weapons and upgrades while delivering QNN reports with hints and warnings.
Controls And Mechanics
- Use the directional pad to move and crouch.
- Press A to jump and B to attack with the selected sword or special weapon.
- Hold Down and press A to cycle between the sword, Zap and a special weapon.
- Zap has a separate health meter and attacks independently when summoned.
- Coins disappear quickly, encouraging fast collection before visiting shops.
This is a single-player game. Attacking during a jump can shorten Farron’s aerial movement, making timing important.
Version Notes
The North American release localizes the Japanese Famicom game Maten Dōji. It reduces enemy durability, adjusts some stage layouts, changes several enemy graphics and adds a title-screen cheat system.
