Overview and Gameplay
Crash Cooney leads Southside High into a five-event competition where athletic skill matters almost as much as fighting dirty. This NES action-sports game mixes hurdles, hammer-throw golf, underwater combat, rooftop racing, and a judo-style street fight.
Players choose athletes with different health, power, speed, and defense ratings. Damage can carry between tournament events, while earned medals serve as both the final score and currency for recovery items and performance upgrades.
Controls And Mechanics
- 400-M Hurdles: Run, jump, slide, kick rivals, and throw broken hurdle pieces.
- Hammer-Throw Golf: Build throwing power, release at the right moment, and influence the hammer’s bounce.
- Water Slaughter: Dive, kick, drag opponents underwater, and surface to breathe.
- Skyline Scramble: Jump between rooftops, pole-vault, grab ledges, and ride a unicycle.
- Judo: Punch, kick, charge, grapple, and perform character-specific throws.
Competitive multiplayer supports head-to-head events, with additional participants alternating through the two controller positions.
Version Notes
The North American edition replaces the Japanese Kunio-kun schools and characters with Crash Cooney, Todd Thornley, and American high-school teams. Scenery, story scenes, and the ending were also localized.
