Overview and Gameplay
Double Dragon IV follows a lone fighter crossing seven levels to rescue his kidnapped brother from Mr. Big. Each level contains four combat scenes filled with gang members, environmental hazards, and a leader who must be defeated before the route continues.
The campaign moves through parking garages, downtown streets, a park, uptown, and the Pig Pen. Motorcycle riders, knife throwers, skateboarders, and martial artists appear as the difficulty rises.
Controls And Mechanics
The directional pad moves the fighter and modifies certain attacks. A punches and uses held weapons, while B performs kicks. Directional combinations allow flying kicks, running attacks, and foot sweeps.
Baseball bats, garbage cans, and fire extinguishers can be picked up and used against enemies. Damage reduces the status meter, while hearts restore part of it. A timer limits each scene, and clearing a level restores strength. The game records score and high score, and one continue becomes available after reaching Level 2.
