Overview and Gameplay

Gohan and the surviving Z Fighters race Vegeta and Freeza’s forces across Namek for the Dragon Balls. This Japan-only Famicom RPG adapts the Namek and Freeza story through sequential maps, event choices, training sessions, and animated turn-based battles.

Movement and combat both depend on cards. Star values set movement and attack strength, while Japanese-number values influence defense and turn order. Matching a fighter’s school symbol can trigger stronger or multi-target attacks, and special techniques consume Battle Energy. Battle Power works as both combat strength and experience, raising levels and unlocking techniques.

Controls And Mechanics

  • Directions: Navigate maps and menus, choose cards, commands, and movement paths.
  • A: Confirm choices, advance dialogue, and speed messages when held.
  • B: Cancel commands or planned map movement.
  • Start: Open the map and menu screen.
  • Select: Change the lead character shown on the map.

The story is single-player. Tenkaichi Budokai mode adds alternating local versus play, including an eight-fighter tournament and a four-fighter battle royale resolved through rotating one-on-one turns.

Version Notes

No official Western version was released. Two Japanese program revisions are preserved, including a later PRG VER2 build. Both use the same graphics ROM.
