Overview and Gameplay
A hunting dog flushes ducks from the grass while the player tracks them with the NES Zapper. Duck Hunt offers three score-based modes: Game A sends out one duck, Game B releases two at once, and Game C replaces birds with clay targets.
Each round presents ten targets. The player receives three shots per appearance and must meet the displayed hit quota to continue. Later rounds increase target speed and raise the required number of hits, while perfect rounds award bonus points. The game has no conventional ending and is built around surviving increasingly difficult rounds and improving the score.
Controls And Mechanics
- Aim and fire with the Zapper; the gun can also select a mode and begin play.
- Select cycles through the three games, while Start begins play or pauses the action.
- Game A supports two-player versus play: one player shoots while the second uses the directional pad to steer the duck.
Version Notes
The Japanese title is ダックハント (Dakku Hanto). The Japanese and US standalone cartridges use the same game data; their main differences are packaging, catalog numbers, and Beam Gun or Zapper branding.
