Overview and Gameplay

Turbo speed is powerful but risky: hold it too long and the motocross bike overheats. Excitebike is Nintendo’s side-view racing game built around jumps, mud, rival riders, and careful landing control.

Selection A is a solo time trial, while Selection B adds computer-controlled riders to avoid and overtake. The goal is to qualify, place high enough in each main race, and keep improving times across five built-in tracks.

Controls And Mechanics

  • Use the directional pad to change lanes, control the handlebars, and adjust the bike’s angle in the air.
  • The normal accelerator is safer, while turbo gives extra speed at the cost of engine heat.
  • Landing poorly can crash the rider, and repeated accelerator presses help get back on the bike faster.
  • Design Mode lets the player build a custom track with obstacle pieces, though the cartridge version does not keep saved designs after power-off.

Version Notes

This version matches the shared Japan and USA cartridge game data. The in-game text is minimal and uses English menu labels such as Selection A, Selection B, and Design.
