Overview and Gameplay
Ghostbusters II follows the team as they cross New York to stop Vigo the Carpathian from escaping his portrait at the Manhattan Museum of Art. Seven scenes alternate among side-scrolling runs, Ecto-1A driving stages, a Statue of Liberty sequence, and the final museum assault. Progress requires clearing each scene while preserving lives for later stages.
Controls And Mechanics
Running stages use the slime blower to attack ghosts, while traps capture enemies and objects that cannot be destroyed directly. Driving scenes require lane changes, speed control, jumping over gaps, and collecting shields, weapon upgrades, and screen-clearing bombs. During the Statue of Liberty stage, torch shots destroy airborne enemies and book bombs clear the screen.
The game begins with four lives, and collecting 20 Ghostbusters II logos awards another. Remaining lives and logo totals carry between scenes. Two-player mode is alternating, with each participant attempting the same stage separately.
Version Notes
This North American release is Imagineering’s seven-scene action game. It is distinct from New Ghostbusters II, which uses overhead ghost-catching stages and different mechanics.
