Overview and Gameplay
Paul and Vince push north through enemy territory, fighting soldiers, gun positions, tanks, helicopters, mines, rivers, and fortified gates. This NES adaptation of SNK’s 1986 arcade game expands the campaign into four long areas. Progress depends on surviving, managing ammunition, finding supplies, and keeping ahead of missile attacks triggered by lingering too long.
Controls And Mechanics
- Movement and combat: The directional pad moves and aims, B fires the machine gun, and A throws grenades or enters a vehicle.
- Power-ups: Upgrades improve penetration, range, firing speed, and grenade strength. Other items can clear enemies, increase speed, or provide triple fire.
- Vehicles: Tanks and helicopters offer protection but consume fuel. Tanks can crush soldiers, while helicopters cross both land and water.
- Co-op: Two players fight simultaneously as Paul and Vince, sharing the same advancing battlefield.
- Difficulty: The stages are lengthy and unforgiving. Extra lives come from score milestones, and the A, B, B, A continue command can extend a run after the final life.
Version Notes
