Overview and Gameplay

Lady Kong has been abducted, sending King Kong across nine connected worlds on a destructive rescue mission. This overhead action-adventure uses single-screen areas filled with soldiers, monsters, hazards, buildings, and concealed passages. Kong explores the first eight worlds, defeats each boss, collects eight keys, and unlocks the final labyrinth.

Buildings, rocks, and other objects can be smashed to uncover items, doors, and routes. Warp doors connect distant locations, while water, dense forests, narrow mountain paths, and lethal falls create different hazards. This is an original Famicom game, not a port of the separate MSX2 title.

Controls And Mechanics

  • Movement: Guide Kong through each overhead area.
  • Jumping: Leap over hazards and crush enemies or objects on landing.
  • Combat: Punch nearby targets or throw limited rocks after selecting the desired attack.
  • Power-ups: Hearts restore life, artificial hearts increase maximum life, and other items improve speed, rock capacity, or rock power.
  • Progression: Maximum life and rock capacity remain after a lost life, but speed and rock-power upgrades do not.

This is a one-player game. Score awards extra lives at 100,000-point intervals, but progress depends on collecting the boss keys.

Version Notes

This Japanese release was not officially localized for North America or Europe. Its Japanese title is キングコング2 怒りのメガトンパンチ, and it is distinct from King Kong 2: Yomigaeru Densetsu for MSX2.
