Overview and Gameplay

Super Mario Bros. 17 follows Mario and Luigi through a side-scrolling campaign built around portable objects. An opening stage leads to a branching route map with zones labeled A through J, ending at Fat Cat’s hideout.

Each stage requires the heroes to cross platforms, avoid hazards, defeat enemies, and reach the exit. Story scenes connect the search for a missing kitten, Gadget’s capture, and the final pursuit of Fat Cat.

Controls And Mechanics

The directional pad moves, ducks, aims throws, and drops through supported platforms. A jumps, while B picks up crates, balls, apples, and other objects or throws the carried item. Crates can also provide cover, and steel boxes can be stacked as steps.

Each character has three hearts, with acorns restoring health. Flowers and stars build toward extra lives. Two players can progress together on the same screen, and a defeated partner returns in a balloon that the surviving player can release.

Version Notes

This unlicensed title and graphics conversion of Chip to Dale no Daisakusen replaces the playable characters with Mario and Luigi. It retains the original stages, object-throwing mechanics, cooperative play, route structure, and Japanese text.
