Overview and Gameplay

Jack, the WorldRunner, charges through Solar System #517 in a forward-scrolling pseudo-3D action game from Square. Tobidase Daisakusen sends the player across obstacle-filled worlds to battle Grax and the Serpentbeasts.

The core play is about staying alive while Jack runs into the screen: dodge enemies, leap pits, collect stars and useful items, manage the timer, and survive each world’s end boss. Later stages demand sharper lane movement, longer jumps, and cleaner timing as hazards become denser.

Controls And Mechanics

  • The directions move Jack across the path and also control his running speed.
  • The jump has a longer version when combined with forward movement.
  • Missiles can be fired only after collecting the missile item.
  • Select toggles the game’s 3D display mode.
  • This version is a solo game, with no alternating or simultaneous multiplayer mode.

Version Notes

This entry represents the Famicom Disk System game converted to NES cartridge format. The same game was localized in North America as The 3-D Battles of WorldRunner, also known as 3-D WorldRunner.
