Overview and Gameplay

Bill Laimbeer becomes commissioner in 2030, fires the referees, removes personal fouls, and turns basketball into an armored arena sport.

This SNES game is a top-down futuristic basketball title with tackles, weapons, mines, cash pickups, and power-ups on the court. Single games support player versus computer or player versus player, while league mode adds team management, player ratings, trades, standings, promotion, relegation, and battery-backed saves.

Controls And Mechanics

  • The main match action changes by situation: shoot, pass, block, jump, or tackle.
  • Baskets score two points, or three from beyond the three-point line.
  • There is a 30-second shot clock after gaining possession.
  • Players can collect coins and power-ups during play while avoiding mines and other hazards.
  • Two-player mode is competitive head-to-head basketball, not co-op.

Release And Credits

  • US SNES release year: 1991.
  • Developer: Hudson Soft.
  • Publisher: Hudson Soft.
  • Adapted from the earlier Future Basketball concept with Bill Laimbeer branding and a revised 2030 setting.
