Overview and Gameplay

Bayside City is caught in a cloning plot, and the fighters left free must rescue their kidnapped gym partners before Dieter builds an army. Brawl Brothers is Jaleco’s second Rushing Beat game, localized from the Japanese Super Famicom title Rushing Beat Ran: Fukusei Toshi.

The game is a belt-scrolling beat ’em up with five selectable fighters: Hack, Slash, Lord J., Kazan, and Wendy. Players move through city stages, defeat groups of enemies, pick up weapons and recovery items, rescue the missing fighters, and face bosses tied to the cloning scheme.

Controls And Mechanics

  • Characters can move, jump, attack, dash, pose, use special attacks, throw weapons, and perform grabs or running attacks.
  • Special attacks cost energy, while weapons and food pickups help during crowded fights.
  • Angry Mode can make a damaged fighter temporarily stronger and harder to interrupt.
  • The story mode supports solo play or two-player simultaneous play, and the game also includes a versus mode.

Version Notes

The USA release changes the title and character names from the Japanese version. A hidden Japanese version can also be accessed on the US cartridge through a code.
