Overview and Gameplay

Chuck “Chase” Davis pilots a high-speed Cyber Car through futuristic Grand Prix races against seven rivals. The USA SNES version is a localized release of the Japanese Shinseiki GPX Cyber Formula game, with the anime license removed and the premise reframed around original racing characters.

Races are shown from a top-down view, with warning signs before corners and a power meter that matters as much as raw speed. The player qualifies for each course, manages damage and turbo use, and must avoid finishing too low or the race has to be attempted again.

Controls And Mechanics

  • The Cyber Car steers from an overhead view, with acceleration, braking, and turbo boost.
  • Turbo gives extra speed but drains power and makes the car harder to control.
  • Power also drops from crashes, leaving the road, and contact with other cars.
  • Pit stops restore the car when power is low.
  • The Grand Prix structure sends the player through ten courses.
  • The game is single-player only.

Version Notes

The US release uses the title Cyber Spin and replaces the Japanese anime branding from Shinseiki GPX Cyber Formula with a new localized racing setup.
