Overview and Gameplay

A lone marine fights through UAC bases overrun by demons after teleportation experiments open a gateway to Hell. This SNES version is an official console port of id Software’s PC shooter, rebuilt by Sculptured Software with a custom Super FX 2 engine.

Players explore maze-like levels from a first-person view, collect weapons, ammo, armor, health, keycards, and skull keys, open locked doors, activate switches, use the automap, and reach each level exit while surviving waves of demons.

Controls And Mechanics

  • The player can move, turn, strafe, run, fire, open doors, activate switches, change weapons, pause, and toggle the automap.
  • Weapons include the pistol, shotgun, chaingun, rocket launcher, plasma rifle, chainsaw, and BFG9000.
  • The SNES version has 22 levels and no save or password system, so episodes are played from the beginning.
  • Regular local play is single-player only.

Version Notes

This is the European PAL SNES release. Compared with the PC original, this version has removed levels, simplified visuals, front-facing enemy sprites, and Super FX 2-based rendering.
