Overview and Gameplay
The first two Dragon Quest adventures are rebuilt together in one Super Famicom collection, covering the fight against the Dragonlord in Alefgard and the later quest to stop Hargon’s threat. Chunsoft’s remake updates the Famicom originals with improved presentation, streamlined commands, battery-backed saves, and classic turn-based RPG structure.
Players choose either game from the title screen, explore towns, castles, caves, and overworld areas, gather clues from NPCs, fight random battles, earn gold and experience, buy equipment, learn spells, and advance through story objectives.
Controls And Mechanics
- Dragon Quest I is a single-hero quest centered on Alefgard and the Dragonlord.
- Dragon Quest II expands the adventure into a party-based journey across a larger world.
- Battles use turn-based commands, character levels, equipment, spells, items, and enemy encounters.
- The Super Famicom remake streamlines older commands with a contextual action button for talk, doors, and examining.
- The collection is single-player only.
