Overview and Gameplay
A rotating Mode 7 rink gives NHL Stanley Cup a different feel from EA’s side-view hockey games. The game uses official NHL teams, single Exhibition matches, one-player 84-game Season Play, and a two-player Best of Seven Series built around playoff-style competition.
Controls And Mechanics
- Season Play tracks standings, player statistics, ties, playoffs, and battery-backed progress.
- Rules include icing, offsides options, penalties, manual line changes, and 5, 10, or 20 minute periods.
- Offense uses passing, wrist shots, slap shots, and dump-ins, while defense uses player switching, poke checks, shoulder checks, and hip checks.
- Two-player play is competitive, including Exhibition and Best of Seven Series.

This is the North American SNES release titled NHL Stanley Cup. The European version was titled Super Hockey, and the North American release includes English and French language options.
