Overview and Gameplay

Road Riot 4WD brings Atari Games’ off-road combat racer to SNES with weapon-equipped 4WD cars, split-screen racing, and short tracks built around bumps, hazards, and tight turns.

After a beginner qualifying race, players choose from additional world tracks and compete for placement, distance, and score bonuses while using missiles to slow rival cars.

Controls And Mechanics

  • Directions steer the car, while A, B, X, and Y accelerate.
  • L and R fire missiles, which slow opponents instead of destroying them.
  • Start pauses the race.
  • The display uses split-screen play, with the computer or second player shown on the lower screen.
  • Two-player mode is simultaneous competitive racing, not co-op.

Version Notes

This is the European PAL English SNES version, separate from the U.S. release. It has no special public subtitle or revision label.

Release And Credits

  • Released for SNES in Europe in 1992.
  • Developed by Equilibrium.
  • Published by THQ.
  • Original arcade version: Atari Games, 1991.
