Overview and Gameplay
Top Gear 2 expands the SNES racing tour into 64 circuits across 16 countries, with four-race championships in each region. Solo racing uses a full-screen behind-view display, while two-player races switch to split-screen competition. Finishing well earns points, prize money, passwords, and access to later countries.
Controls And Mechanics
- Racing: steer through traffic and hazards, accelerate, brake, and spend nitro for bursts of speed.
- Progress: racers must place high enough to keep moving through each country championship.
- Upgrades: prize money buys improvements such as engines, tires, gearboxes, nitro systems, and armor.
- Options: manual or automatic transmission and several controller layouts are available.
- Multiplayer: two-player mode is simultaneous competitive split-screen racing, not co-op.
Version Notes
This is the European PAL SNES release. The Japanese version is titled Top Racer 2. It uses password progression and does not require a special chip or accessory.
