Overview and Gameplay
Pokemon Blue is an unlicensed side-scrolling platform game built from Wacky Races with Blastoise replacing the playable character. The retained story sends the character across ten stages to rescue Dick Dastardly and defeat rival vehicles.
Three course groups lead through locations such as the desert, forest, castle, ocean, western town, ice village, and mountain. Each stage ends with a two-phase boss battle, and the later courses introduce tougher hazards and enemy patterns.
Controls And Mechanics
The directional pad moves and crouches, A jumps, and B performs a close-range attack or uses the selected weapon. Bones move an arrow across an upgrade bar containing bombs, a projectile attack, flight wings, and heart recovery. Select activates the highlighted upgrade.
Collecting 100 diamonds awards an extra life. Hearts represent health, and the heart upgrade can expand the life bar to six units. The Wing ability allows sustained flight until a life is lost. Stage timers, pits, hazards, and depleted health can end an attempt.
Version Notes
This unauthorized graphical hack replaces Muttley with Blastoise and adds a Pokémon-themed title screen while retaining the original stages, dialogue, bosses, collectibles, and upgrade system. Some multicarts label the game Blue Cat.
