Overview and Gameplay
Sonic the Hedgehog sends Sonic through six side-scrolling zones filled with slopes, loops, springs, spikes, water, robotic enemies, and Dr. Robotnik boss machines. The campaign includes Green Hill, Marble, Spring Yard, Labyrinth, Star Light, and Final Zone, with the main areas divided into multiple acts.
Sonic builds speed while running, curls into a ball during jumps, rolls along the ground, and uses a Spin Dash to accelerate from a crouch. Rings protect him from damage, and reaching an exit with 100 rings can open a bonus stage.
Controls And Mechanics
The directional pad moves, crouches, and rolls. A and B perform the jump or action input, while holding Down and pressing an action button charges the Spin Dash. Start begins or pauses play.
The display tracks rings, time, score, and remaining lives. Enemy contact removes rings when any are held, while hazards can cost a life. Losing every life ends the run and requires the stages to be attempted again.
Version Notes
This unlicensed NES release was created from Hummer Team’s Somari program. It replaces the Mario-derived lead character with Sonic and rebuilds selected Sonic-themed zones, enemies, bosses, and special-stage ideas for Famicom-compatible hardware.
