Overview and Gameplay
Samantha and Norbert, two teenage troll twins, search an island of caverns, castles, and a pyramid for buried treasure. Trolls on Treasure Island is an unlicensed NES action-puzzle game from American Video Entertainment, built around maze routing, timing, and color matching.
Each stage asks the player to collect the required jewels and reach the exit before time runs out. Paint buckets change the troll’s hair color, and matching that color is needed to collect certain treasures or pass through colored doors. Later mazes add enemies, ice, water, arrows, breakable blocks, hidden paths, and passwords for continued progress.
Controls And Mechanics
- The troll keeps moving, so play centers on steering at the right moment rather than stopping freely.
- The speed button activates a faster hyper movement for tight routes and quick runs.
- Color changes are central to progression, since treasures and doors respond to the troll’s current hair color.
- The game supports solo play, a two-player mode, and a cooperative Teamwork mode.
- A built-in editor lets players build temporary custom caverns.
