Overview and Gameplay
Six World War II campaigns frame this Koei strategy simulation, from the invasion of France and North Africa to Kursk, Normandy, the Battle of the Bulge, and Berlin. The player commands Axis or Allied forces through large-scale operations rather than arcade combat.
Each scenario is built around divisions, regiments, battalions, officers, cities, supply lines, air operations, terrain, weather, and combat orders. Victory comes from meeting military objectives such as taking key cities, defending territory, and destroying enemy forces.
Controls And Mechanics
- The game is menu- and cursor-driven, with commands issued from strategic and battle displays.
- Officers have different abilities, and assigning them well affects unit performance.
- Fuel, ammunition, food, fatigue, reconnaissance, weather, and city endurance shape each campaign.
- Two-player mode is alternating strategy play, with opposing sides controlled by different players.
Version Notes
This is the North American SNES version with the English title Operation Europe: Path to Victory 1939-45. The Japanese title is Europa Sensen.
