Overview and Gameplay
Rows of alien invaders descend toward the player’s cannon in this SNES presentation of Taito’s arcade shooter. Space Invaders keeps the fixed-screen formula: move left and right, fire upward, use shields for cover, and clear every wave before the formation reaches the bottom.
The game includes different visual styles for the classic mode, including cabinet-style and color variations, while the core scoring and enemy behavior remain focused on timing, accuracy, and survival.
Controls And Mechanics
- Only one player shot can be on screen at a time, so careful timing matters.
- Barriers absorb fire from both sides and gradually break down.
- The UFO target offers bonus points when it crosses the top of the screen.
- Two-player support includes classic play and a split-screen VS mode, not co-op.
Version Notes
This is the European PAL SNES release, published by Nintendo in 1997. The Japanese Super Famicom version used the title Space Invaders: The Original Game.
