Overview and Gameplay
Super Puyo Puyo 2 is the English-translated Super Famicom version of す〜ぱ〜ぷよぷよ通, Compile’s home version of the arcade puzzle sequel. Arle and the Madou Monogatari cast return for falling-pair battles built around chains and garbage attacks.
Players drop pairs of Puyo, connect four or more of the same color, and build chain reactions to send nuisance Puyo to opponents. Single-player mode uses tower-style CPU battles, while Endless play and competitive modes focus on survival, score, and versus pressure.
Controls And Mechanics
- Move falling Puyo sideways, soft drop them, and rotate the pair left or right.
- The key sequel rule is offsetting, which lets a player cancel incoming garbage with their own clears.
- All clears, hard Puyo, point Puyo, predicted garbage, and quick turns deepen competitive play.
- Two-player play is simultaneous versus, not co-op.
Version Notes
This is the Japanese Super Famicom release with the J2e English translation v1.1 applied. The base game is not the later Super Puyo Puyo 2 Remix.
