Overview and Gameplay
Torneko, the merchant from Dragon Quest IV, enters the Mysterious Dungeon to bring back treasure, sell loot, and improve his shop. This first Mystery Dungeon game uses top-down, grid-based roguelike RPG play where every move, attack, or item use advances the dungeon by one turn.
Controls And Mechanics
- Dungeons: floor layouts, items, traps, and monsters change between runs.
- Survival: Torneko manages HP, hunger, equipment, arrows, scrolls, staves, herbs, rings, and gold.
- Progress: levels reset on dungeon entry, while successful trips bring rewards back to town.
- Saving: the Super Famicom version uses battery-backed automatic saving.
- Players: single-player only.
Version Notes
This version is based on the Japan Revision A Super Famicom release and uses an unofficial English fan translation known in translation circles as Taloon’s Great Adventure. There was no official English SNES release.
