Overview and Gameplay
Barbie as The Island Princess follows Rosella, a shipwrecked girl raised by animal friends who travels from her island toward the kingdom of Apollonia. The Game Boy Advance edition presents the story through 12 mini-games spread across the Deserted Island, Royal Ship, Apollonian Castle, and Royal Greenhouse.
Each location contains three activities, including catching coconuts, fitting shapes, sorting objects, repeating bell patterns, gathering flowers, tracing constellations, and guiding musical notes. Scores earned in the current location unlock the next story segment. Completed mini-games remain available for replay, and stronger results open additional dresses, shoes, and accessories for the Dressing Room.
Controls And Mechanics
The directional pad moves characters, baskets, shapes, and menu cursors. A performs context actions such as casting a net, ringing bells, picking flowers, catching fireflies, and confirming selections. B handles secondary actions in certain activities, including dropping a carried flower and responding to rhythm prompts. L and R rotate puzzle pieces, while Start pauses play.
Scoring rules change by activity. Some games reward accurate timing, correct patterns, collected objects, or uninterrupted action chains. Progress saves automatically after each completed mini-game under the selected profile.
Version Notes
This handheld adaptation uses a 2D, four-location structure built around 12 mini-games and a Dressing Room reward system.
