Overview and Gameplay
Four international fighter pilots take off against an alien invasion in this SNES port of Video System’s vertical arcade shooter. The Japanese version is known as Sonic Wings, while the North American release uses the title Aero Fighters.
The game sends the player through seven scrolling stages with enemy waves, ground targets, power-ups, bosses, and a later move into space. The first three stages can appear in random order, and later continues restart from the beginning of the current stage.
Controls And Mechanics
- Pilots: each country has its own aircraft and weapon style.
- Weapons: main shots can be powered up, while special weapons use limited stock.
- Items: power-ups, full power-ups, special weapon icons, extra lives, and score items appear during play.
- Scoring: currency symbols add points, and 200,000 points grants an extra life.
- Multiplayer: two players can fight together for the same country.
Version Notes
The USA SNES release was published as Aero Fighters. The Japanese Super Famicom release is titled Sonic Wings.
