Overview and Gameplay
The D117B Axelay fighter is sent against the Armada of Annihilation after an invasion of the Illis solar system. Konami built this as an original SNES shooter, remembered for its polished presentation, large bosses, and alternating stage viewpoints.
The campaign moves through six worlds, switching between vertical and horizontal scrolling stages. Before missions, the player equips recovered weapons, then survives enemy waves, terrain hazards, and a stage-ending boss. Difficulty settings include Easy, Normal, and Hard.
Controls And Mechanics
- Weapons: air-to-air and air-to-ground attacks are assigned separately.
- Selection: the player switches between equipped weapons during play.
- Damage: ordinary hits can disable the current weapon, while crashes and some hazards can destroy the ship.
- Players: this SNES release is for one player only.
Version Notes
The European SNES release keeps the title Axelay and uses the PAL product code SNSP-AX. The Japanese title is written as アクスレイ.
