Overview and Gameplay

Bub and Bob trade platforming for bubble-popping puzzle play in Bust-A-Move, the USA Super Nintendo version of Taito’s Puzzle Bobble. The player aims a launcher from the bottom of the screen and fires colored bubbles into a packed ceiling of bubbles.

Matching three or more of the same color clears them, while disconnected groups fall away. Rounds are won by clearing the screen before the bubble formation drops too far. The SNES home version includes 100 puzzle rounds, passwords, continues, score bonuses for fast clears, and multiple endings tied to continue use.

Controls And Mechanics

  • Use the directional pad to aim the launcher and send bubbles toward walls, ceilings, and color clusters.
  • A and B fire the current bubble.
  • L and R allow slower, more precise aiming.
  • Special bubbles include thunder, flame, and water effects that can clear or alter the field.
  • Two-player VS Mode is simultaneous competitive play, with cleared bubbles helping pressure the opponent’s side.

Version Notes

The USA release uses the title Bust-A-Move. The Japanese title is Puzzle Bobble, while Europe used Puzzle Bobble: Bust-A-Move.
