Overview and Gameplay

Yoshi’s Island becomes a rising-panel battleground in Tetris Attack, the international SNES version of Panel de Pon. Yoshi works to free friends from Bowser’s spell while the player swaps adjacent panels to make rows or columns of three or more matching symbols.

This is not traditional Tetris line clearing. Panels rise from below, cleared panels fall into new positions, and chains or combos can trigger bigger scores and attacks. Modes include Endless, Time Trial, Stage Clear, Puzzle, VS, and two-player competition.

Controls And Mechanics

  • The directional pad moves the cursor and selects menu items.
  • A or B switches the two highlighted panels; A confirms menu choices and B cancels them.
  • L and R manually raise the stack, while X and Y undo moves in Puzzle mode.
  • VS play uses Shock Panels, chain reactions, combos, and garbage blocks to pressure the opponent.
  • Two-player play is simultaneous versus competition, not alternating play and not co-op.

Version Notes

This is the European PAL SNES release. The Japanese original is Panel de Pon, while the international version uses the Tetris Attack title and Yoshi’s Island characters.
