Overview and Gameplay
King K. Rool and the Kremlings steal Donkey Kong’s banana hoard, sending Donkey and Diddy across themed regions of Donkey Kong Island. Side-scrolling stages feature ropes, water, mine carts, Barrel Cannons, hidden bonus rooms, Animal Friends, and boss battles.
Bananas and balloons grant extra lives, while K-O-N-G letters, photographs, and secret areas contribute to completion. DK Attack adds timed score challenges, and Hero Mode unlocks a harder adventure starring Diddy alone.
Controls And Mechanics
The directional pad moves, climbs, ducks, swims, and navigates menus. A jumps and confirms selections. B performs rolls or cartwheels, picks up barrels, and throws them; holding B allows running. Donkey can ground-slap to defeat enemies and reveal hidden items. L or Select switches between available Kongs, R also runs, Start pauses, and Select can exit a completed stage while paused.
A DK Barrel restores a missing partner, and Continue Barrels mark checkpoints. Losing both Kongs costs a life. Two Player Team assigns Donkey and Diddy to separate players who alternate control, while linked systems support competitive fishing and dancing minigames.
Version Notes
