Overview and Gameplay
King K. Rool and the Kremlings steal Donkey Kong’s banana hoard and capture Diddy Kong. Donkey and Diddy cross themed areas of Donkey Kong Island, clear side-scrolling stages, find hidden bonus rooms, and defeat a boss at the end of each world.
Stages include jungle paths, caves, underwater routes, rope courses, mine-cart runs, factories, and barrel-cannon sequences. The Game Boy Advance version also includes DK Attack, Funky’s Fishing, Candy’s Dance Studio, collectible scrapbook photographs, and an unlockable Hero Mode starring Diddy alone.
Controls And Mechanics
Donkey is stronger and can use the Hand Slap, while Diddy moves faster and jumps farther. Both characters run, jump, roll or cartwheel, carry barrels, and ride animal helpers. Buddy Barrels restore a missing Kong, Continue Barrels mark checkpoints, and collecting 100 bananas or all four KONG letters grants an extra life.
Two Player Team assigns Donkey to one player and Diddy to the other, with control passing when the active Kong changes or is defeated. The fishing and dance modes also support two-player competition through a Game Link Cable.
Version Notes
This handheld adaptation adds redesigned world maps, new scenes, DK Attack, two minigames, scrapbook collectibles, Hero Mode, revised boss battles, and save-anywhere support.
