Overview and Gameplay
Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong disappear in the Northern Kremisphere, sending Dixie Kong and Kiddy Kong across forests, factories, caves, waterfalls, and the GBA-exclusive Pacifica region. Each area contains side-scrolling stages followed by a boss encounter.
Bonus Barrels award coins used to open Krematoa, while DK Coins unlock Funky’s Gyrocopter. Bear trades, hidden Banana Birds, vehicle upgrades, Cranky’s Dojo, Swanky’s Dash, and Funky’s Rentals provide additional objectives.
Controls And Mechanics
The directional pad moves, crouches, climbs, swims, aims, and navigates menus. A jumps, swims, and confirms selections. B performs Kiddy’s roll or Dixie’s helicopter spin, allows running when held, and handles barrels or partner throws. L switches Kongs and dismounts Animal Friends, while R teams up the pair and activates special animal abilities.
DK Barrels restore a missing partner, Star Barrels mark checkpoints, and losing both Kongs costs a life. Two Player Team assigns Dixie and Kiddy to separate players who alternate after a lost life.
Version Notes
This Game Boy Advance adaptation adds Pacifica, a new David Wise soundtrack, redesigned maps, extra Banana Birds and DK Coins, revised boss encounters, and new side activities. The European release includes English, French, German, Spanish, and Italian text.
