Overview and Gameplay
SpongeBob wants Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy’s autographs as a birthday present for Patrick. The retired heroes send him across Bikini Bottom and several unusual locations to collect food, clothing, beauty products, and repair tools before granting his request.
The campaign contains five chapters with four side-scrolling levels each. SpongeBob crosses platforms, fights enemies, gathers the required quest item, and faces a boss at the end of every chapter. Four-character passwords provide access to completed stages.
Controls And Mechanics
The directional pad moves SpongeBob and looks vertically. A jumps and performs a Butt Bounce when pressed again in midair, while B uses the karate chop or equipped items. L displays health, lives, Golden Spatulas, and item supplies. R operates equipment such as the Bubble Wand and Coral Blower.
Available tools include a Jellyfishing Net, Jellyfish Launcher, Bubble Wand, and Coral Blower. Patty Burgers restore full health, Salty Shakes restore half, and Salty Fries restore a smaller amount. Underpants grant extra lives, and every 50 Golden Spatulas awards another life.
Version Notes
The Game Boy Advance edition uses a dedicated twenty-level campaign with limited-use equipment, separate health and lives, chapter bosses, quest items, and password progression.
