Overview and Gameplay
Spyro leaves the swamp where dragonflies raised him and joins Ignitus in a campaign to rescue the captured Guardian dragons. Side-scrolling stages lead through elemental training dojos, hostile islands, boss battles, and forward-scrolling flight sequences. Completing the story unlocks seven minigames for replay.
Controls And Mechanics
The directional pad moves Spyro, A jumps, double-jumps, and glides, while B performs melee attacks and charging strikes. R uses a close-range elemental breath, L fires a long-range breath projectile, and Select cycles through fire, electricity, ice, and earth. Pressing L and R together releases a Fury attack when the purple meter is full.
Red gems restore health, green gems replenish breath energy, blue gems fill the experience meter, and purple gems charge Fury. Experience points can strengthen unlocked breath elements from the pause menu. Power Stones serve as checkpoints, returning Spyro to the latest activated stone after his health is depleted.
Version Notes
The Game Boy Advance edition uses a dedicated 2D campaign with separate stage layouts, elemental dojos, embedded minigames, and forward-scrolling flight sections.
