Overview and Gameplay

Kunio leads Nekketsu FC into four international leagues, aiming to qualify for the Technōs Japan Cup. Matches use fast six-a-side soccer mixed with the rough comedy of the Kunio series: players tackle, charge, leap, and unleash character-specific special shots. The campaign rewards victories and qualification points, while formations, lineups, tactics, player moods, items, and weather all affect performance.

Controls And Mechanics

  • Movement: Use the directional pad to run; rapid directional inputs enable dashes.
  • With the ball: Pass, shoot, jump for aerial plays, and perform special shots with precise timing.
  • Without the ball: Use sliding tackles, shoulder tackles, dropkicks, and teammate commands.
  • Conditions: Rain, wind, mud, lightning, and tornadoes can alter movement and the ball.
  • Multiplayer: Two players can compete directly, while league play supports co-op with the second player controlling the goalkeeper.

Version Notes

This is the original Japanese Family Computer edition with Japanese text. A planned Western NES localization titled Crash ‘n the Boys: Soccer Challenge was cancelled; unofficial cartridges also circulated as Goal 3.
