Overview and Gameplay

A jigsaw match becomes a race in Pieces, the North American SNES version of Japan’s Jigsaw Party. Players choose pieces, fit them into the correct outlines, and try to complete pictures before the opponent.

The main modes include 1P vs. COM, 1P vs. 2P, and Jigsaw Mode. Solo play challenges computer opponents across stages, while versus play turns each puzzle into a speed contest. Jigsaw Mode adds genre-based picture sets, scoring, and bonus rounds based on spotting differences between images.

Controls And Mechanics

  • The cursor selects pieces, places them on the board, and drops pieces that were chosen by mistake.
  • Power-up items can reveal clues, slow the opponent, reverse controls, remove pieces, or help finish part of the puzzle.
  • Correct placements score points, while wrong placements and discarded pieces create penalties in Jigsaw Mode.
  • Two-player mode has both players racing to complete puzzles, with match formats such as single games and multi-round sets.

Version Notes

The US release is titled Pieces; the Japanese Super Famicom version was released as Jigsaw Party.
